Another V8 commission!

I’ve had the great fortune to write for VOCES8’s “Live From London - Summer” festival. When Barney reached out, he asked for something that evoked images of the universe, of space, of infinity. I started scouring the internet for texts and lots of familiar things popped up…but none of it scratched the itch. I then came across the Stardust text and it just resonated in my soul.

Texts either create immediate music, or they don’t. That’s not to say I haven’t wrestled with some texts. I have. But if their words form immediate chords and melodies and phrases, I know I have found something rich.

Clairel Estevez, author of the poem, has written some stunningly beautiful texts, many of which are in both Spanish and English. You can find her work at thewishfulbox.com.
